Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) will resume the all-women bus service between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack soon to cater to working women and girl students in the twin cities.
According to sources, the Commerce and Transport Department has directed OSRTC to resume the service on priority. Transport Department under-secretary Anil Kumar Parija has written to OSRTC general manager for expeditious steps in this direction.
The service was introduced on March 8, 2013, coinciding with International Women’s Day amid the raging issue of women safety after the Nirbhaya incident in New Delhi, to ensure safe and comfortable rides for working women and girl students. However, OSRTC discontinued it later. Following this, several women reached out to the chief minister’s grievance cell with pleas to resume the special service, the sources added.
