Berhampur: To mark World Environment Day, skilled professionals of Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here have created the world’s tallest sculpture made of electronic waste.
It is expected to find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The sculpture, which is 29 feet high, has been made from more than 3 tonnes of e-waste collected from the Silk City. Students from Electrician and Instrument Mechanic Trade have developed it with the guidance of their teachers.
“We had earlier set up an e-waste collection centre in our campus from where these e-wastes were picked up. Students and teachers fabricated this sclupture,” ITI Berhampur Principal Dr Rajat Kumar Panigrahi said.
“E-waste creates a hugely hazardous environment and we have developed the tallest sculpture to draw the attention of entire word,” he added.
The sculpture, with the theme ‘Hand pointing to the ground’, is meant to convey the message to reconnect with Mother Earth by being responsible in scientific management of electronic waste, recycling it in a sustainable manner and be responsible in management of e-waste by following the principles of reduction, reuse, repair and recycle, the Principal explained.
“We have already set up an e-scrap park which is the largest in Asia as per Asia Book of Records,” he informed.
This sculpture is higher than a 16-feet tall e-waste sculpture at Bhubaneswar.
