New Delhi: Even as the water levels of the Yamuna River, which rose to an all-time high on Thursday, are slowly receding, several areas in Delhi are flooded. Delhi government shut down schools, colleges, crematoriums, and even water treatment plants as water from the overflowing Yamuna flooded the national capital.

At 6 am, Yamuna water levels stood at 208.46 metres, slightly lower than Thursday night’s 208.66. The Central Water Commission has predicted that the water levels will fall today and could reach 208.30 metres by 1 pm. Areas in ITO and Rajghat are still submerged.

The floodwaters even reached the Supreme Court, located in the Tilak Marg area in the central part of the city.  Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said the government has directed the chief secretary to take up the matter of the damage to the regulator on priority and resolve the problem.

Delhi authorities have said that there will be drinking water and power cuts in some areas of the national capital, NDTV reported.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Union Home Minister Amit Shah from France and enquired about the flood-like situation in parts of Delhi, NDTV reported quoting sources.
