Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP state president Yeddyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra will not be contesting elections from Varuna assembly constituency in Mysuru against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra.
The announcement was made by Yeddyurappa at a party meeting organised at Nanjanagudu, near Mysuru. Several BJP workers organised widespread protests, following which police had to resort to mild lathicharge.
“Vijayendra is not filing nomination, a common man (party worker) will be fielded and he will be filing the nomination. With folded hands I request all of you to support and bless that candidate and make him win,” Yeddyurappa said.
The seat for Varuna assembly constituency in Mysuru was being seen as a fight between sons of the two Chief Ministerial candidates of BJP and the Congress.
Karnataka was to go on polls on May 12 and the votes will be counted on May 15.
