Bhawanipatna: A young girl was killed as a car hit a roadside tree while the driver was critically injured in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Thursday.
According to police sources, the girl, identified as Mamuni of Jagannath Mandir Pada in M Rampur, left her house in the car in the morning to go to Bhawanipatna. The car was driven by Subrat Ghibhela.
As they were crossing Gobarbahali under M Rampur police limits, the driver lost control and the car crashed into a roadside tree.
Mamuni, who was sitting in the front seat of the car, died on the spot on the impact of the accident. The locals managed to rescue Subrat from inside the car and informed the police. The car was badly damaged in the mishap.
On arriving at the spot, the police sent Subrat to the district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna and seized the body of Mamuni. They have registered a case and started investigation.
