Youth Found Dead On Rail Tracks After Altercation With Girlfriend In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Mutilated body of a youth was recovered from tracks near Bhubaneswar Sarakantar-Bahadalpur railway crossing line on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Niranjan Sahu (23), a resident of Raghunath Nagar in Dumduma.

Though prima facie it appears to be a case of death of suicide, his family have alleged that he was murdered by his rumoured girlfriend and her family.

According to sources, Niranjan’s girlfriend along with her mother and sister had allegedly barged into his house on Wednesday and threatened him with dire consequences. He was found dead the following morning.

“They had an altercation at our residence over some monetary matter last evening. They had threatened him with dire consequences. Since the body was found lying in the middle of the railway track with severed left hand, we suspect that he was murdered and his body later dumped on the tracks,” said the deceased youth’s brother.

On the hand, Niranjan’s girlfriend alleged his boyfriend had withdrawn around Rs 4 lakh from her bank account and lost the money in an online game. “We had gone to house to question him about my ATM card which he had received while I was in Goa where I am pursuing a course in hotel management. He then promised the return the amount by December,” she said.

His girlfriend said that she suspect that it is a case of death by suicide.

Meanwhile, GRP and Khadagiri police have seized the body and sent it for autopsy to Capital Hospital. “Whether it’s a case of suicide or murder will be known only after a thorough investigation,” a senior police officer said.
