Berhampur: Even as ‘No To Extortion’ drive led police to arrest eight persons in the Twin City in the last two days, miscreants allegedly hacked a youth and his sister in the city on Saturday.
According to sources, some unidentified miscreants came on bikes to the shop of Kalia Patra in Laxmi Nursingha ward under Bada Bazar police limits and demanded Rs. 10,000 at gunpoint.
When Kalia refused to pay the amount, they attacked him with swords injuring him seriously. When Kalia’s sister tried to rescue him, the miscreants assaulted her also. The goons also threatened the siblings of dire consequences, if they informed the police regarding the incident.
It may be noted that police had arrested 3 persons in Cuttack on Friday night and gangster Raja Acharya and four others in Bhubaneswar on Saturday on extortion charge.
On Friday, Twin City Police had announced that a special drive called “No To Extortion” was launched to put an end to the collection of extortion money by criminals.
