Keonjhar: In a strange incident, a youth who was allegedly was tied to an electric pole and thrashed by a ‘kangaroo court’ a village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, was forwarded to court by the police.
The incident was reported from Birbal village under the jurisdiction of Anandpur police station. The youth was identified as Sritam Jena, son of Bhanumati from nearby Bankhidi village.
As per sources, some locals had tied the youth to a pole and thrashed him over some issues. His mother rushed to the site after learning about it and requested them to set free the youth. However, her plea went unheeded and she was reportedly abused by the group.
On being informed, a police team from Anandpur rushed to the site and rescued the youth. However, he was forwarded to court, as per an FIR lodged by the youth’s mother. She claimed that no case was registered based on her FIR.
Police sources said that Sritam has been forwarded to court based on an allegation made by a woman. Police have also registered a counter case based on the FIR lodged by the youth’s mother, they added.
