Khurda: Police on Saturday arrested a person for allegedly thrashing a youth at Kaipadar village in Khurda district. The police action came after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Khurda SP Ajay Pratap Swain said some youths of Kaipadar village had a face-off with some youths of Bangida village in August. Though the matter was resolved by the senior members from both villages, the youths of Kaipadar were looking for an opportunity to settle the score.
On December 16, two youths of Kaipadar forcibly picked up a youth of Bangida and severely thrashed him after tying him to a coconut tree. One of the assailants even urinated on the victim’s face when he pleaded with them to give him water.
“Police swung into action after a video of the incident went viral on social media and arrested Raja alias Rajendra Bhuyan from the village. A hunt is on for the other accused, Gatia Palatasingh,” the SP said.
The SP requested people to immediately inform police if such incidents come to their notice. “We will take stern action against those indulging in such barbaric acts, he added.
