Bhubaneswar: A youth who got trapped under a drainage pipe was successfully rescued after three over hours of exercise by fire services, police and ODRAF personnel at Pallahara in Odisha’s Angul district.
Police said the 22-year-old youth, who hailed from Purunapani in Deogarh district, accidentally slipped into a roadside drain and got trapped around 100 feet under a pipe.
The youth, identified as Jhulu Sethy, had been to Pallahara with his family members for treatment at the local hospital and the mishap took place near a flyover when he was taking a stroll along the national highway on Friday. He got trapped under a pipe due to flow of water in the drain.
Locals who saw Jhulu slipping into the drain immediately informed the police and fire services personnel and a rescue operation was launched. Personnel of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) also joined the rescue operatio.
After three hours of hard efforts, the youth was pulled out from under the pipe and rescued. He was taken to hospital for necessary medical treatment and his condition was stated to be stable.
The Odisha Police has complimented the ODRAF for successfully rescuing the youth. “Odisha Police compliments the dedicated ODRAF personnel of the 4th IR Bn., Deogarh, for their commendable service in rescuing a 22-year-old trapped under a pipe in the Pallahada PS Area. The rescued individual has been safely sent to the local medical center,” it said in a post on X handle.
