2-Day Judicial Colloquium On Juvenile Justice At NLUO Tomorrow

Cuttack: A two-day Judicial Colloquium on Juvenile Justice will be held at National Law University Odisha (NLUO) here, beginning Saturday .

The colloquium seeks to engage with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, pertaining to the responsibilities of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and the rehabilitative dispositions under Section 18.

It is being organised jointly by National Law University Odisha, Institute International des Droits de L’Enfant (IDE), Sion, Switzerland, UNICEF Centre for Child Rights and HAQ, Centre for Child Rights, Delhi.

Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, Geneva, Renate Winter will deliver the keynote address.

The inaugural address will be given by Justice Madan B Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chair, Juvenile Justice Committee.

The inaugural session will include remarks from Henriette Ahrens, Principal Officer, (Programmes), UNICEF, India; Paola Riva Gapany, Director, Institute International des Droits de L’Enfant, (IDE), Sion, Switzerland and Justice Vineet Saran, Chief Justice of Odisha and Chancellor, National Law University, Odisha.

A total of seven sessions will be conducted during those two days. The first day’s sessions will deliberate upon international and domestic framework on juvenile justice, restorative juvenile justice and International Executive Course in Juvenile Justice.

The second day of the colloquium will deal with diversion in juvenile justice, role of Juvenile Justice Board in administration of justice, challenges in the administration of juvenile justice in India and possible solutions and deliberations on the significance of social investigation reports and individual care plan.

The Judicial Colloquium will be attended by Judges and Chairpersons of Juvenile Justice Committees of High Courts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, UP, Tripura, Jharkhand and Odisha.

Director, National Judicial Academy, Bhopal, Directors of the State Judicial Academy from various states, Member-Secretary, National Legal Services Authority, Delhi, and Principal Magistrate and members of Juvenile Justice Boards in Odisha will participate.
