24% Of Indians Doubt EVMs’ Authenticity: Survey

A survey conducted by popular news app Inshorts ahead of the Lok Sabha elections reveals that 24 per cent Indians doubt the authenticity of EVMs. The following are other things that emerged from the survey.

  1. Over 46 per cent Indians think that the option of NOTA (None of The Above) is not functioning well to bring out the purpose of voting.
  2. As high as 45 per cent of voters said they will not be traveling back for elections if away from their hometowns.
  3. The survey conducted saw participation by over 2 lakh subscribers across the country in the month of March. The majority of participants were from Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai. These typically represent urban millennials, aged between 18 to 35 years.
  4. According to the survey, 51 per cent of voters residing in the Delhi/NCR region will not go back to their hometowns to cast their votes.
  5. The same trend is observed in other cities too, such as – Mumbai (47%) and Pune (45%).
  6. 85 per cent of voters highlighted that voting should be made compulsory.
  7. 74 per cent of voters said they do extensive research about each candidate before voting for them.
  8. Cities such as Hyderabad (77%), Pune (75%) and Bangalore (75%) are ahead in comparison to others in terms of making an informed decision before casting their votes.
