Angul: At least four persons were killed after being attacked by a wild elephant in different incidents in Odisha’s Angul district on Saturday.
According to sources, the same elephant went on a rampage and killed the four in four separate incidents at Cheliapada, Barasingha, Angarbandh and Santri villages.
The elephant, which has been wreaking havoc in the area after getting separated from a herd, first attacked and killed Subhash Biswal of Cheliapada while he was in his agriculture field.
The animal then strayed towards Angarbandh and Barasingha and killed two other people from the villages in a similar manner. The victims were identified as Anirudha Sahu of Angarbandh and Ramesh Sahu of Barasingha.
Another person sustained grievous injuries after the elephant attacked him as at Santri village. He succumbed to injuries during treatment at a hospital later.
The elephant also caused extensive damage to vegetables and food grains in several villages in the area.
After getting information, forest officials rushed to the villages and took stock of the situation, sources added.
