Baripada: Police on Wednesday rescued three persons, who were being held captive by villagers at Thakurmunda in Mayurbhanj district for allegedly attempting to rape a woman the previous night.
According to reports, the three youths forcibly entered the woman’s house and tried to outrage her modesty.
On being alerted by the woman, some villagers caught the trio while they were trying to escaping and thrashed them mercilessly after tying their hands and legs.
On being informed, police reached the spot this morning and rescued them. They have been detained for questioning.
The trio is also accused of being involved in child theft.
