4 Killed, 8 Injured In Separate Road Mishaps In Odisha

Kendrapara/Keonjhar/Cuttack/Sonepur: Four persons were killed, eight others injured, three of them seriously, in separate road accidents in Odisha in the wee hours of Saturday.

In the first incident, one person was killed and three others were seriously injured when a vehicle carrying the members of a band party overturned at Pahana on the Chitrotpala embankment under Patkura block in Kendrapara district.

According to reports, some members of a band party from Kendrapara had gone to a village in Patkura block to perform at a marriage procession on Friday night. After the procession, the band party was returning to Kendrapara when the driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned on the Chitrotpala river embankment in which one person died on the spot and three others were seriously injured.

Patkura police rushed to the spot and admitted the three injured to the district headquarters hospital. However, they were shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack when their condition turned critical. The post-mortem of the deceased, identified as Bharat Chandra Mallick, will be conducted later in the day.

In another incident, one person died and five others injured after a van of a bridegroom party overturned near Badapichhula Chhak unde Pandapada police limits in Keonjhar district.

Reports said there was a marriage function in Khamar village on Friday night for which a bridegroom party of Raghunathpur village was on the way to the village when the mishap took place.

The deceased has been identified as Swadhin Pradhan (20) of Raghunathpur village. Of the five injured persons admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Harichandanpur, the driver has been shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in a critical codition.

Reports from Cuttack district said a passenger died and three others seriously injured when a private bus hit a truck from behind near Khaira Nullah near Jagatpur.

In another incident, two youths died on the spot when a speeding truck carrying iron ore collided with their bike at Jhinki Chhak on Sonepur-Balangir road,

The deceased have been identified as Ranjit Mallick and Parameswar Baghar. The incident took place when the duo was on the way to Sonepur from Balangir.

Following information, Sonepur Town Police rushed to the spot and seized the truck. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. Efforts are on to arrest the absconding truck driver, police said.
