Balasore: The Special Vigilance Judge, Balasore, convicted four schoolteachers of Balasore in Odisha and sentenced them to two years of rigorous imprisonment for submitting fake educational certificates in connection with their appointment.
The case was filed in 2007.
The convicted teachers are Daitary Nayak, an Assistant Teacher of Mahisapata Government UGME School at Nilagiri, Narahari Nayak, a former teacher (under suspension) of Jharanaghati Primary School, Dhirendra Nayak, a former teacher (Retired) of Pithahata Nodal Primary School and Debendra Kumar Mohapatra, former Assistant Teacher of Tentulia UGME School (at present serving as Assistant Teacher of Kalyani Government Primary School) of Balasore district.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each under Section of 471 (fraudulently using fake document) of IPC. In default of payment, they will have to undergo jail term of four years and a fine of Rs 20,000 will be imposed on them. In the event of Rs 20,000 fine not being paid, they will have to spend another four months in jail.
The court further sentenced Daitary Nayak and Debendra Kumar Mohapatra to four-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 each. In default of payment of fine, they have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months each for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act.
All the sentences are to run concurrently, a Vigilance release said.
Following their conviction, the department will now move the competent authority to stop pension of these teachers, it added.
