New Delhi: An estimated 68 per cent of voters cast their ballot in the first phase of polling in Odisha, the Election Commission said here on Thursday. In all, four Parliamentary constituencies and 28 Assembly seats in the State went to vote.
At a media briefing, the Commission said that till about 6 pm, the voting percentage recorded was 68 per cent. The percentage could increase as the Commission was awaiting reports from the interiors and Maoist affected areas. In 2014, 73 per cent polling was reported for the corresponding seats.
Among all the states which went to the polls, West Bengal registered the highest voting percentage at 81 per cent, the Commission said. Two Parliamentary constituencies, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar in north Bengal voted in the first phase.
The Commission is yet to announce the overall voting percentage.
