Puri: Another boat, carrying around 50 passengers, got stuck in Chilika lake near Satapada in Odisha’s Puri district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the mechanised boat, which was carrying 30 bikes besides the passengers, left Satapada for Jahnikuda in the afternoon. After going for about 7 km in the lake, the boat stopped moving, sparking panic among the passengers.
On coming to know about the incident, local fishermen rushed to the spot in their boats. They rescued all the passengers from the stranded boat and brought them to the banks of Chilika at Jahnikuda. Later, the affected boat was toed to the banks.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, the boat is suspected to have got stuck due to receding water level in the lake.
It may be noted that a floating bridge vessel with around 100 passengers and several vehicles on board got stuck in the lake near Satapada on Sunday. However, the passengers were rescued in special boats.
