Bhubaneswar: The lone accused in Odisha minister Naba Kishore Das murder case, Gopal Das has been shifted to a high security cell of Choudwar Jail in Cuttack district.
Gopal was transferred from Jharsuguda sub-jail with permission from the court. The authorities of the sub-jail had earlier sought the permission from the JMFC court Jharsuguda in this regard. The court granted the permission after recording Gopal’s statement. Gopal had also expressed his willingness to stay in Choudwar jail, sources said.
He would be lodged in cell no 3 in Choudwar jail amid tight security. Additional security arrangements including installation of CCTV cameras and deployment of more guards have been made at the cell, the sources said.
Earlier, Jail DG had approved the proposal to shift the accused out of Jharsuguda sub-jail, where he was lodged after returning to Odisha following polygraph and narco-analysis tests at the Directorate of Forensic Sciences at Gandhinagar in Gujarat on Friday and Saturday.
It may be noted that Gopal, who was serving as ASI of police, had shot at the minister while the latter was going to a public function in Jharsuguda on January 29. The minister succumbed while undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Bhubaneswar the same day.
