Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Friday conducted raids on different hotels and food outlets to verify the quality of food and hygienic preparation.
A team of BeMC officials led by food inspector Smita Khadanga conducted the raids on fast food kiosks, stalls and roadside vendors in Kamapali, Ankuli and Lanjipalli of the city. They checked the quality of ingredients, use of artificial colours and condition of cooking place.
The shops, which were found to be using stale food or poor quality artificial colours, were served show-cause notice and asked to reply within 7 days. The team also destroyed the stale food and unhygienic ingredients of the stalls.
During raids on shops selling non-vegetarian items near Old Bus Stand in the city, the BeMC officials directed some of those to close down.
It may be noted that the BeMC conducted raids on a plant producing ‘Chhatua’ (mixed cereal powder) at Gate Bazaar and sent the samples of its products for laboratory test on Thursday.
The BeMC would intensify the raids on food joints in the city from Monday and take stern steps against those who would be found violating health norms, said Khadanga.
