Bhubaneswar: Jaundice scare appeared to have gripped the campus of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) in Bhubaneswar amid reports of detection of more than 24 cases.
As per information, jaundice cases have been reported in some hostels on the OUAT campus during the last few days, prompting health department officials to undertake a visit to take stock of the situation.
The university authorities have also initiated steps to create awareness among students following detection of jaundice cases in at least two hostels. Supply of contaminated water and food was suspected to have led to jaundice spread.
Speaking on the development, additional district urban public health officer (ASUPHO) Dr Nilamani Senapaty said the university authorities should share all information regarding jaundice cases so that effective steps can be taken to prevent further spread.
Stating that at least 12 jaundice cases have come to the notice of the health authorities, he aid a medical team visited the campus and inspected different areas including hostel rooms and surroundings.
While OUAT authorities will write to WATCO for conducting proper test of the water being supplies to the campus, the health officials will also take necessary steps to prevent further spread of jaundice.
