Angul: Normal life came to a standstill in Khamar panchayat under Pallahara block of Angul district on Saturday owing to a 24-hour bandh called by the BJP seeking immediate fulfillment of their two-point charter of demands.
Vehicular movement was largely affected in the region as protestors blocked major roads including National Highway-149 and picketed various places demanding improvement in healthcare services in Khamar Hospital.
Educational institutions, commercial establishments and offices remained closed in response to the strike.
“Medical services at Khamar Hospital have remained miserable due to insufficient doctors. So, we demand that the district administration should take appropriate steps to fill the vacant doctor posts in the hospital without any delay,” an agitator said.
