Kendrapara: Cyclone Amphan seems to have left its impact on the aqua life in sea as carcass of a giant whale washed ashore in Kenrapara on Saturday.
The fishermen along Agarnasi coast under Rajnagar block saw the whale’s carcass floating in the seawater and informed the forest department. Later, the forest officials recovered the body of 60-ft dark whale from water.
The whale is suspected to have died due to strong wind and tidal surge caused by cyclone Amphan that crossed Odisha coast on Wednesday.
Agarnasi island is situated under the Gahirmatha sanctuary limits and is a rookery for endangered Olive Ridley. Thousands of the sea turtles visit the coast for breeding and laying eggs.
