Bhubaneswar: Even as mystery continues to shroud the death of BTech graduate from Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo, her last WhatsApp conversation with her mother surfaced on social media on Friday.
Chinmayee sounded chirpy while asking her mother about the pictures, perhaps from the convocation, which she had sent her. That was around 5.51 pm. Her mother then enquired whether she also alone and about her bus timing. “Don’t forget to bring all your belongings,” she added.
She then messaged back saying that the bus was at 9 pm. “I have booked sleeper No. 8 on Sushree Bus.”
Chinmayee’s mother had earlier told the media that she had received a call from her daughter at 6 pm on Tuesday to inform that the convocation was over. When she called her around 9.20 pm, she heard a heavy voice from the other side which appeared like someone was strangling her. She disconnected the call in panic and called her again only to hear a similar voice.
At around 10 pm, it was found she allegedly jumped into the power channel. The body was retrieved the following morning.
“She can never die by suicide. She was a brave child and an NCC student. Every time she came across any news of suicide, she would say that it was not the solution. It is a clear case of murder as there were injury marks on the neck. My daughter has been brutally killed in a pre-planned manner,” her mother alleged.
Chinmayi’s father Banamali Sahoo, a doctor by profession, said that the injury mark on her neck is clearly ante-mortem in nature that is before her death. “She might have been thrown into the water body soon after she died or when she was unconscious. Even if someone is thrown into the water in a semi-conscious state then reports show as drowning. However, it is not drowning,” he said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a murder case against two of Chinmayee’s male friends, including Pritiman Dey, on basis of a complaint lodged by her family.
Chinmayee’s bag, laptop and other documents have also been seized from her rented house at BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar. She was staying in Bhubaneswar and preparing for CDS examination.
