Sambalpur: Expressing grief over the death of 10 persons in Sambalpur road accident, Chief minister Naveen Patnaik announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims and free treatment to the injured.
Ten persons, including a child, were killed when a pick-up van carrying them collided head-on with a truck on NH-55 near Bhabanipali under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur on Monday. While four persons died on the spot, the others succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital.
All the deceased hail from Parmanpur. The accident took place while they were returning home after visiting a temple at Hatibari.
Police have started investigation and a manhunt has been launched to nab the truck driver who fled the spot immediately after the incident.
