Puri: The controversial on the stone plaque, here, on the visit of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi to Puri has been removed ahead of Gandhi Jayanti celebration.
The plaque installed in front of the railway station in the pilgrim town mentioned that during their visit, Gandhiji did not go to Jagannath Temple as a mark of protest against discrimination on entry of the people of a particular caste to the temple. However, Kasturba went to the temple and had darshan of the deities.
On her return from the temple, Gandhiji scolded Kasturba for visiting the temple without giving a thought to the discrimination against a section of the devotees, the plaque stated.
The local people and intellectuals had expressed their resentment to the Indian Railways, which had installed the plaque, about the controversial writing.
Considering the sentiments of the people, the railways authorities have removed the writing and a blank plaque stands at the place.
