Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday claimed that the Union government doesn’t provide any funds to the state during tough times and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into the matter.
Mamata, a bitter critic of the BJP-headed Central government, took a dig at Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.
“Union Home Minister sends thousands of Central forces and provides security to every BJP leader. But the Centre doesn’t send funds (to West Bengal) during tough times. What funds did you give us during cyclones Amphan, Fani, Bulbul and Yaas? I urge PM to look into this,” ANI quoted CM Mamata as saying.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) swept to power in West Bengal for a third term in May this year after beating a determined and desperate BJP hands down in the assembly elections, but Mamata lost to her former party leader Suvendu Adhikari by a narrow margin in Nandigram.
Even as TMC is projecting her as the face of the Opposition which can challenge BJP in the 2024 general elections, Mamata is awaiting the verdict of Bhabanipur by-poll from where she was pitted against BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal.
