Rayagada: Around 19 truck drivers and helpers hailing from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh escaped from a quarantine centre at Kereda panchayat in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Wednesday.
Informing about the incident, Rayagada SP Vivek Saravana said, “The truck drivers escaped from the quarantine centre by breaking a window. A case has been registered and further investigation in this connection is underway.”
According to reports, the truck drivers and helpers were placed in the quarantine centre on March 30, 2020 when they were trying to cross the Odisha border from Andhra Pradesh on foot.
Along with the 19 truck drivers, there were 96 other labourers also at the quarantine centre and all the necessary arrangements including food and other amenities were made for them.
However, the reason why the truck drivers escaped from the quarantine centre is still unknown.
