Gajapati/Cuttack: Four inmates, the jailor and a staffer of Paralakhemundi sub-jail have tested positive for COVID-19, informed Gajapati Collector Anupam Shah on Sunday.
The virus has been spreading its tentacles in Odisha jails since the detection of the first case from Puri on May 17. The number had swelled to 96 by July 31.
On August 7, 17 prisoners of Rourkela Special Jail had tested positive for the virus.

To decongest prisons and check the spread of the virus, 16,789 inmates from jails across the state have so far been released on parole.
Meanwhile, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh informed about another four cops in the city – one from Sadar police station, two from Badambadi police station and one from Reserve Police Force – being infected.
