Koraput: In order to ensure a clean and hygienic environment to villages, the service of domestic garbage collection has been launched in 3 panchayats of Odisha’s Koraput district.
Borigumma block administration of the district introduced the service in Kamata, Kumuli and Bodigaon panchayats on Sunday. Under the scheme, battery-powered vehicles will move from door to door to collect domestic garbage like un urban places.
The project has been assigned to women self-help groups in the three panchayats. The members of the SHGs will drive the vehicles to collect the garbage from households in the villages. They have been tasked to ensure that the villagers do not dump the filth and waste materials on the roads.
The project, which has been launched due to the initiative of Congress MLA from Jeypore Tara Prasad Bahinipati, is financed by MLA Fund and Zilla Parishad Fund.
Flagging off a garbage collection vehicle at a function in Borigumma, Bahinipati said if this project becomes successful, he would ensure that it is implemented in all panchayats of his Assembly constituency. Among others, Borigumma BDO Pranay Ranjan Behera, assistant engineer Satya Narayan Sethi, Zilla Parishad member Pinku Satpathy and Kamata sarpanch Basanti Jani were present on the occasion.
