Cuttack: Commissionerate police on Tuesday rescued an engineering student, who reportedly had completed 29 levels of the Blue Whale online ‘suicide’ game, after being alerted by his friends.
A special team of Markatnagar police traced the victim and handed him over to the parents after counselling.
His friends had sought help from Odisha Police and Crime Branch via Twitter. The victim too had claimed to have completed a few tasks of the Blue Whale challenge on his Facebook page.
The young boy from Keonjhar was pursuing engineering from a city-based college. Police refused to disclose his identity.
“He is in a depressed state,” Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said.
In the wake of reported suicide of youths by playing the online game, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed schools to prohibit use of smartphone in institutions and buses.
