Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former minister Jagannath Rout passed away at a private hospital here on Saturday. He was 78.
Rout had been suffering from old age related illness for the past few months, his family said.
Born on November 13, Rout was a three-time MLA from Dhamnagar constituency in 1980, 1985 and 1995 as a Congress candidate.
During his political tenure, he held the key portfolios of Industry (1989-90), Health & Family Welfare (1995-98) and Urban Development (1998-99).
Leaders across the political spectrum have expressed condolence on Rout’s demise.
