Fireman Arrested For Rape Of Nurse In Odisha’s Kendrapada

Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested an employee of Fire Services department for allegedly raping a nurse in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Jitu Ranjan Das, a Fireman in Fire services department in Angul, came in contact with the nurse in social media about four months. As their relationship grew, they came closer over the time.

Though being married, Jitu lied to the nurse that he was unmarried and proposed to marry her. Later, he took advantage of her and raped her. After the nurse came to know that Jitu was married, she filed a complaint at Pahala police station under Commissionerate Police of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on June 20.

The police had registered a case and started investigation. On the basis of the findings of the investigation, the police arrested the Fireman from Kendrapada on Friday.

Speaking to media on the arrest, Manas Kumar Deo, ACP, Zone IV, said Jitu already has two rape cases pending against him. The accused would be produced before court and the Director General of Fire Brigade would be requested for departmental action against him, the ACP added.
