Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday said that the situation in Malkangiri district was normal following the flood in the past three days.
Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy said that Malkangiri district had received the highest rainfall of 463.2 mm in the last three days and this led to severe waterlogging in the low-lying areas. However, the situation in these areas is now normal due to the recession of floodwaters, he added.
Tripathy told this to the media after a video conferencing on the flood situation with the collectors of Malkangiri, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Deogarh, Balangir and Boudh districts.
He further said that the collectors of these 10 districts will submit detailed reports on the damage due to the heavy rainfall to the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) very soon.
The chief secretary also informed that the collectors were asked to be on high alert to deal with the flood situation.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha under the influence of another low pressure that is most likely to form over the Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
When asked about the forecast, Tripathy said the government will take necessary steps after the IMD gives a confirmation.
Present on the occasion, SRC Pradeep Jena said that the heavy showers since August 13 has replenished the deficit rainfall in the state.
The SRC informed that three casualties were reported due to the heavy rainfall. These included two from Balangir and one from Puri.
