Basta: The headmaster Haripada Jena, of Satyabadi UP School at Mulida village in Balasore district, has been suspended for forcing students to carry a pile of books on a bicycle. As per rules, students cannot be used to carry out heavy labour.
According to sources, three students of the school had gone to pay their last respects to a martyred soldier at the police headquarters in Basta. The headmaster was also there. When it was time to return, he asked the students to carry two packets of heavy books.
A complaint was lodged regarding the incident with the Block Education Officer (BEO), who immediately ordered an investigation.
