Bhubaneswar: While heatwave condition will continue to prevail at one or two places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, the India Meteorological Department on Saturday also issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50kmph for some places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Khurda till 8.30 am on Sunday.
Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Angul, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts during this period while a few places in North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at one or two places in rest of the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain, according to the midday bulletin.
By 2.30 pm, mercury had soared to 44 degree Celsius in Sambalpur followed by 43.8 at Hirakud, 43.4 at Jharsuguda, 37.6 at Keonjhar and 36.8 at Bhubaneswar. The coastal areas, however, experienced high humidity levels. The day temperature is likely to touch 45 degree Celsius in Sambalpur and 44 degree Celsius each in Jharsuguda, Boudh and Sundargarh and Sonepur by the end of the day, an IMD forecast said.
Heatwave warning continues for Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Balangir, Boudh and Keonjhar, the following three days.
There will be no large change in the day temperature with mercury level at 3-5 degree above normal at a few places during next 4 days and it will fall slightly thereafter, the weather agency said.

According to the IMD, the heat is likely to be tolerable for general public during this period and cause health concern for infant, elderly and the sick. “It is advised to avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration. Farmers are advised to continue irrigation activities in sugarcane, summer maize, pulses and other crop and vegetables. Livestock/ domestic animals may be kept in proper shelter to avoid heat exposure,” it added.
On June 14, there is a warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 30-40 kmph for one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
