Heavy Rain Likely To Lash Odisha From July 29

Bhubaneswar: Formation of two cyclonic circulations over North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and West Bengal may cause heavy rain in several districts of the state between July 29 and August 2.
According to a release by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday, the axis of monsoon trough at mean sea level is passing through Ganganagar, Hissar, Meerut, centre of low-pressure area over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh and neighbourhood, Azamgarh, Patna, Kolkata, and thence east¬south-eastwards to north-east Bay  of Bengal while another monsoon trough is passing through Patna, Malda and Silchar.
“The cyclonic circulation over northern parts of Bangladesh now lies over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above the mean sea level while another cyclonic circulation at 7.6 km above the mean sea level lies over interior Odisha and neighbourhood,” the release said.
According to Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director of the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) at the SOA (Deemed to be University), the districts likely to experience increased precipitation are Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Dhenkanal and Angul.
“Other districts may receive less rainfall during the period”, he said adding that the surface pressure along and off the Odisha coast is likely to be less than 1000 millibars during the period.
