Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha For 4 Days From Tomorrow; IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: After a subdued Southwest Monsoon, Odisha is likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall from July 3-6 with the possibility of a low pressure forming over Bay of Bengal around July 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal and Nabarangapur on July 3. Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul and Boudh. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at many places in coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and at a few places in the remaining districts of the state during this period, according to the midday bulletin.

On July 4, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada. Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir districts. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in South and North Coastal Odisha and at many places in the rest districts of Odisha.

Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Cuttack during the subsequent 24 hours (July 5). Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at most places across the state.

On July 6, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Balangir districts with light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in South Odisha and at many places in North Odisha.

The MeT office further said that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. Thus, it has covered the entire country by July 2, 6 days before the normal date.
