Bhubaneswar: Hindu American groups have applauded former US President Donald Trump for promising to safeguard the interests of Hindus, including those in US and Bangladesh, and protect them from the “anti-religion agenda of the radical left.”
“I’m very grateful to President Trump, eternally grateful and eternally appreciative. It sucks that Kamala Harris hasn’t said anything about this issue. I think that there’s going to be a big change in this election coming from this,” founder and chairman of Hindus for America First Utsav Sanduja told PTI.
The grassroots organisation had earlier announced that it will endorse Trump and launch a campaign against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina.
HinduAction also thanked Trump for his statement.
“Thank you President Trump for showing moral clarity and unequivocally condemning anti-Hindu pogroms in Bangladesh,” said Indian-American Nathan Punwani.
In a Diwali message on Thursday, the Republican presidential candidate condemned the atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh, especially after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
“I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos. It would have never happened on my watch,” Mr Trump wrote in a post on X, while accusing President Biden and vice President Kamala Harris of ignoring the Hindus across the world and in America.
This is the first time Trump has spoken on the issue of Bangladesh.
Trump also vowed to protect the Hindu Americans against “anti-religion agendas” and strengthen ties with India. “We will also protect Hindu Americans against the anti-religion agenda of the radical left. We will fight for your freedom. Under my administration, we will also strengthen our great partnership with India and my good friend, Prime Minister Modi.”
“Kamala Harris will destroy your small businesses with more regulations and higher taxes. By contrast, I cut taxes, cut regulations, unleashed American energy, and built the greatest economy in history. We will do it again, bigger and better than ever before—and we will Make America Great Again.” he further wrote.
