New Delhi: With monkeypox spreading to 20 countries across Europe and North America, India is keeping a close watch on the outbreak of the virus which is causing concern across the globe.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) scientist Dr Aparna Mukherjee said the country is prepared to tackle monkeypox in the wake of increasing cases in different countries and asserted that no infection has been reported in the country so far.
Dr Mukherjee urged people with a travel history to monkeypox-affected countries and those showing symptoms like fever and body ache to get themselves tested.

Observing that monkeypox infections are being detected in non-endemic European countries and the US, Dr Mukherjee said people should not panic.
“We should observe unusual symptoms like high fever, a lot of lymphadenopathies, large lymph nodes, body ache, rashes, etc. especially those who have travel history from infected countries,” told ANI quoted Dr Mukherjee as saying.
World Health Organization (WHO), which has urged governments to ramp up surveillance, described monkeypox outbreak as ‘containable’.
