Sydney: Indian cricketers were the target of racial abuse from fans for the second successive day at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah were the ‘targets’ on the third day of the ongoing third Test between Australia and India, while on Day 4 Siraj was at the receiving end of racial abuse.
The incident happened in the post-lunch session of play on Sunday. Cricket came to a halt after Siraj complained to the umpires about being subjected to abuse by a handful of fans.
The umpires got together with the other match officials and administrators, before asking security officials to find out what had happened.
On being identified by the player, six persons were told to leave the venue immediately by security personnel.
CRICKET AUSTRALIA APOLOGIZES, TO INVESTIGATE
Cricket Australia (CA) issued a statement, apologizing for the incident.
“The abuse of cricketers by crowd members is not acceptable… the matter will be investigated to the fullest extent,” CA stated.
