Bhubaneswar: India has third-highest porn watchers in the world, ranking just behind the USA and the UK, according to the 6th annual survey report of Pornhub released recently.
Around 30 per cent of the traffic in 2018 comprised women users, a rise from 26 per cent last year.
The global average age of visitors to Pornhub is 35.5 years while for India, it is around 29 years.
In October, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), following an order from the Uttarakhand high court, had directed internet service providers to block 827 adult content websites. A similar order was also passed in 2015, but that was subsequently changed to banning sites that hosted child pornography.
The most-searched keywords from India are ‘desi’, ‘indian’, ‘hindi’, ‘Indian college girls’ and ‘hot sexy teacher’ and Sunny Leone and Mia Khalifa the most-searched pornstars.
This apart, 95 per cent porn in India, compared to 80 per cent worldwide, is accessed from mobile phones, a stat showing the growing availability of cheaper mobile data plans in the country. There also has been a rise in viewership of HD and 4K video, again showing the increase in internet penetration in the country.
The most interesting finding of the report is that traffic from India plummeted during festivals, as high as 15 per cent during Holi.
