Malkangiri: A group of armed Maoists set a JCB machine on fire at Patraput, bordering Chhattishgarh, in Malkangiri district late on Thursday.
According to sources, a group of 20-25 armed Maoists arrived at Patraput late in the night, where the construction of road between Goiguda and Bhujiguda in Bonda ghat was underway. Later, they set fire to a JCB machine and damaged other road construction equipment.
However, police are yet to confirm involvement of the Maoists in the incident and reach the incident spot since it is situated in the remotest area of the district.
Notably, the Maoists had been opposing construction of the road at Bonda Ghat for which they had circulated posters and leaflets in this area recently.
