Jharsuguda: The farmers of the district are facing drought-like situation due to scanty rainfall, said Odisha BJP secretary Tankadhar Tripathy on Friday.
Tripathy, who accompanied a fact finding team of the party to Kolabira, Kirmira, Laikera and Lakhanpur blocks to assess the ground situation, told the media persons here that the crops in the area are in bad shape due to poor rainfall. While the agricultural lands have developed cracks, the paddy seeds have turned yellow, he added
“After assessing the ground situation, we will demand before the state government to declare the district as drought-hit to facilitate the farmers to get compensation,” he said.
“The condition of crops is very bad and I don’t think the farmers will get any yield this year. The party leaders will present our report in the coming session of the Assembly,” said Rabi Naik, former Kuchinda MLA.
Rengali MLA Nauri Nayak, vice-president of State BJP Krushak Morcha Chandrashekar Panda and BJYM vice-president Biswajit Sarangi were also part of the fact finding team.
As per cumulative data till August 25, the district has received 535.2 mm rainfall against normal rainfall of 913.4 mm accounting for a deficit of 41.4%.
