New Delhi: It was a momentous day for India’s nationwide vaccination drive on Friday as over 1 crore doses were administered – by far the highest single-day figure since the inoculation process started in the country on January 16, 2021.
Surpassing the previous best mark of 88 lakh-plus doses by some distance, 1,00,64,032 people got the vaccine on August 27.
China has achieved the maximum daily vaccine doses, going up to 2 crore on some days.
“Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Friday night.
The cumulative vaccination coverage in the country crossed the 62-crore doses mark.
If this pace is maintained for the rest of the year, India could fully vaccinate its adult population by the end of 2021.
