Koraput: The Koraput District Congress launched a two-day foot march “Deomalire Nirbhaya Samabesh Padayatra” from Musaguda village in Koraput district on Tuesday demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the gang rape of a minor tribal girl.
The padayatra, which was taken out from the victim’s native village under the leadership of Koraput MLA Krushna Sagaria and Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi, would conclude at the DIG office here tomorrow.
“Stringent action should be taken against the accused and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh provided to the victim,” a Congress member said.
The party had also observed a seven-hour bandh in the district on Monday over the same demands.
On October 10, four persons suspected to be security personnel allegedly abducted the Class 1X student and gang-raped her in a forest near Sorisapadar village under Pottangi police limits in the district. The girl is undergoing treatment at Kunduli health centre and is reportedly out of danger.
Odisha police have already marked the crime as a ‘Red Flag’ Case (a sensational case of crime against woman which is dealt with top priority).
