Bhubaneswar: Mesmerising performance by eminent Odissi exponents kept the visitors spellbound on the second evening of the Mukteswar Dance Festival in the city on Friday.
The evening’s programme started with lighting of the traditional lamp by Guru Aruna Mohanty, secretary, Orissa Dance Akademi; Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, director, Srjan; Guru Dhaneswar Swain, eminent Mardala player; Durga Prasad Mohapatra, joint secretary, Tourism Department; Dr Ratikanta Pattanayak, assistant sirector, Tourism and Dr Sangita Gosain, chief executive, GKCM Odissi Rsearch Centre, Bhubaneswar.
The dance show started with ‘Shiva Vandana’ by Guru Swapneswar Chakraborty along with his group invoking the blessing of Lord Shiva “Uma Mahesh Stotram”.
Guru Ramesh Chandra Jena performed a solo dance on Mangalacharan – ‘Haragourastakam’ which was followed by Abhinaya Biswarupa. The dances were choreographed by Guru Bichitrananda Swain and Guru Aruna Mohanty. Music was composed by Guru Ramhari Das and Guru Gopal Chandra Panda, rhythm direction rendered by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and Guru Bijay Kunmar Batik and scripted by Kedar Mishra.
The second item was duet performed by Shatabdi Mallik and Niladri Mohanty who presented Mangalacharan – Shiva Rupa Mahadevanka Dhyana. It was followed by Ragheswari Pallavi and Abhinaya – Baidanath Panchapadi. All dances were choreographed by Guru Durga Charan Ranbir.
The group Odissi dance started with Dasabatara set to Raga Kalayana and Tal Jhampa followed by Abhinaya Ardhanariswar. The last presentation was Pallavi – Shankaravaranam. The programme was anchored by Dr Srinivas Ghatuari and Sanhati Pani.
The dance festival is organised by the Tourism department in association with Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy and Odisha Tourism Development Corporation.
