Puri: Taking note of the mismatch in the schedule for Vijaya Dashami rituals of Goddess Durga, the Jagannath Temple Managing Committee has proposed the temple administration should prepare a special almanac.
A member of the temple managing committee told mediapersons that while the Vijaya Dashami is being observed on Sunday in most places in Odisha, it will be observed on Monday at the Jagannath temple. To ensure that the rituals are observed on the same day across the state, the managing committee has asked Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to prepare a special almanac that will be followed in all temples.
Some members of the committee said that as Maha Navami and Maha Dashami have overlapped on the same day (Sunday), Vijaya Dashami ritual at Jagannath temple will be observed on Monday.
“As per tradition, the rituals in Jagannath temple are performed in accordance with the sunrise timing. As the Dasami tithi remains till 8.44 am tomorrow, sevayats will perform Dashami rituals as well as Suna Besha of Lord Jagannath on Monday,” they added.
Asked about Dashami rituals at Bimala temple at the Gobardhan Peeth of Shankaracharya today, a senior servitor and member of the temple managing committee said that the ritual of the Goddess performed at the Gobardhan Peeth is called the Aparajita Puja or Sayana Puja. But in Jagannath temple, the ritual performed at Bimala temple is known as Ayudha Puja which is done during the forenoon. As the Dashami tithi remains till forenoon, the Dussehra will be held in the temple tomorrow.
