Bhubaneswar: The south-west monsoon is expected to move into parts of south Odisha by June 8 or 9 as it has advanced up to Andhra Pradesh and had covered some areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, said Centre of Environment and Climate (CEC), Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan, on Friday.
The monsoon current was likely to get further strengthened over the next two to three days leading to the formation of a low pressure area (LOPAR) over north-west Bay of Bengal on June 10-11 along the West Bengal-Odisha coast which would facilitate the advancement of the south-west monsoon into entire Odisha, it said.
The system is likely to concentrate into a depression causing rains from the night of June 10 and the intensity of rainfall would increase from the evening of June 11 in the coastal belt of the state. Thereafter, heavy to very heavy rainfall would be experienced in northern and western Odisha up to June 14, it said.
