Narrow Escape For Odisha Fishermen In Sea After Boat Catches Fire

Bhadrak: At least 10 fishermen had a close shave after their fishing boat caught fire in the sea near A P J Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast on Thursday.

According to sources, the fishermen of Dosinga village of Dhamra area in Bhadrak district had ventured into the sea on a fishing mission. As the fishermen were busy fishing in the sea close to A P J Abdul Kalam Island, earlier known as Wheeler Island, a fire broke out in the boat.

As smoke billowed out and flames erupted in the boat, the fishermen informed the Coast Guard about the incident. A rescue team was soon pressed into operation and the fishermen were saved.

While the exact reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained, the flame reportedly emanated near the engine. The rescued fishermen were stated to be in good health and none of them was hurt in the incident, sources added.
